Director#1~An inspiration.
Hasan karacadağ
Hasan Karacadag is a renowned Turkish director, a popular screenwriter and a producer as well. He is widely recognized for his innovative contributions to the Turkish horror film genre. His works have captivated audiences both in Turkey and internationally and we were one of the million attracted with his 2006 film Dabbe being a defining moment in his career.
Dabbe stands out as a bold exploration of the many supernatural genres. It blends traditional horror elements with modern technology and cultural references from Turkish culture. The film's chilling narrative, which revolves around the terrifying concept of possession and the unearthly forces at play in contemporary society has made a significant impact on the genre not just in Turkey but globally.
What makes Karacadag’s approach unique?
It is his ability to fuse the terrifying atmosphere of horror with deep cultural themes, often adding elements of religion, superstition, and the supernatural, which are deeply ingrained in Turkish society and ideologies.
For me and my team, Dabbe became a source of inspiration as we worked on our film making project. Karacadag's dedication to building tension through suspense, his creative use of sound and imagery and his fearless approach to tackling taboo subjects in Turkish culture all influenced the way we approached storytelling in our own work.
His ability to craft a film that is both culturally specific and universally terrifying pushed us to think outside the box and made us motivated to challenge traditional narrative structures and to experiment with new techniques. Karacadag’s films have set a high standard in the industry, and his work being the ultimate source to reflect on sensitive topics like black magic influenced plenty of people including us. Especially Dabbe, continues to inspire a new generation of filmmakers, including myself and my team, to think more creatively and push the boundaries of what horror and thriller genres can really achieve.
