How the film Industry evolved!

 HISTORY OF FILMS:

The history of films has evolved over the centuries in various ways. From technological advances to many discoveries made by filmmakers, we have seen the huge success that this industry has achieved in technology, art, and culture. Devices like the zoetrope led to the invention of the first motion-picture camera, noticed by the Lumière brothers in 1895. At the same time, cinemas also came to life when the camera's cinematography allowed films to be projected to the public. Georges Méliès then came and introduced his imaginative storytelling and many special effects, he became famous for using them in A Trip to the Moon (1902).

Then in the early 20th century, people got to witness silent cinema. Many filmmakers like D.W. Griffith changed the narrative storytelling with films like The Birth of a Nation (1915). There were comedic icons like Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton who became the stars for their talent in acting. The 1920s also saw the rise of Hollywood, The studio system clearly took hold, and films were dominated by silence.

In the late 1920s, sound prospered greatly with the use of new techniques for e.g., The Jazz Singer of 1927 was the first feature of synchronized dialogues that ended the silent era. This also led to the "Golden Age of Hollywood" from the 1930s to 1950s. Where it had many technological advances like Technicolor and the rise of major film genres, film noir, and epic dramas that were dominated by studios such as MGM and Paramount.

The late 90s saw the rise of a new era in both Hollywood and global cinema. Many Independent filmmakers and directors like Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola pushed their creative boundaries becoming a part of the advancement towards technology. Global movements like the French New Wave offered unfamiliar experimental filmmaking and at the same time, people also witnessed the birth of the modern blockbuster!  Films like Jaws (1975) and Star Wars (1977) redefined the audience's expectations and film marketing.

1990s onward, digital technology transformed filmmaking. Discoveries of Digital cameras, CGI, and visual effects were made and they became an essential part of filmmaking. We saw their use in films like Titanic (1997) which was a big hit! and then The Matrix of  1999. Besides the rise of streaming services and platforms like Netflix and Amazon further changed the way of viewing each offering new avenues for indie filmmakers and shifting interests from traditional theaters.

Today, the film industry continues to evolve, we see new technologies like virtual reality and AI, and this continues to reflect the diversity of our ever-changing global culture.
