What are camera shot sizes?

. Amount of subject visible in the frame

. Affects how much the environment is shown.

. Shows proximity visible in character & audience

Extreme wide shot:

The subject is shown from a great distance, this establishes the setting. The subject is shown small in the frame. Example; City view. 

Very Wide shot:

The subject is still small but closer than the extreme wide shot. Emphasizes surroundings placing focus on Subject. Example; street view!

Wide shot:

The subject takes up a full frame. The entire body is visible /Balanced between character & setting. closer street view for example.

Long Shot:

The subject's full body is visible from head to toe. It Shows body language or character in action.

Mid-Long shot:

Also known as a 3rd Quarter shot, the Body is above the knees and the shot shows body language plus it is used in dialogues.


 Mid Shot:

The subject is framed waist up. It is focused on the subject interactions with surroundings & facial expressions altogether.

Mid-close-up: 

The subject is framed chest up. highlights expressions & emotions /more intimate than mid-shot.

close-up:

Focuses on face or shoulder up. Draws attention to reactions, emotions, and significant detail.

Big close-up:

Focuses even more on the subject often only showing part of the face such as forehead to chin.

Extreme Close-up:

Tight shot that highlights a minor detail such as eyes or hand. Emphasis on specific detail, specific emotion, or action.
